A full bathroom refurbishment is the complete strip-out and rebuild of the existing room. Old fittings come out, the walls are taken back to brick or stud where needed, plumbing and electrics are re-routed to suit the new layout, and the room is rebuilt from the inside out. Plasterboard, tanking on wet zones, tiling, fixture installation, decorating and a final clean are all handled in sequence by the same in-house team.
What we don't do is partial work or one-off fixture swaps. We're not fitting a single toilet or replacing a tap. We're handling the whole room, properly, with every trade in-house. The result is one accountable team for the entire job, not a sequence of subcontractors meeting on site for the first time. For waterproofed walk-in builds with no enclosure, see our separate wet room installation page.
DR Construction is run by Dan Richardson, a bricklayer by trade with over 30 years of building experience. The team is six to seven people across tiling, plumbing, fixture-fitting, carpentry, electrics and decorating, with a full-time carpenter of fifteen years on every bathroom job. The team handles your bathroom from initial site visit through final clean, with one point of contact for the duration of the project.
Being FMB-registered is rare in this market. The Federation of Master Builders vets members on workmanship, accreditation and customer record, and it's where two or three of our best clients found us. VAT registration is the other signal of legitimacy: it means a real business backing the work, not a cash-in-hand quote that disappears when things go wrong.
A full strip-and-rebuild typically runs three to four weeks from the day the team arrives on site to the day they leave. The first few days are demolition and rough-in: stripping out old fittings, exposing the substrate, and running first-fix plumbing and electrics. The middle stretch is the construction work itself: plasterboard, tanking, tiling and fixture installation. The final stage is second-fix, decorating and snagging.
During the work, your existing toilet is normally re-plumbed and reinstated early on so it can still be used out of work hours. For handwashing and brushing teeth, most clients use the kitchen sink downstairs. The shower or bath is the part you'll be without for the longest, typically up to three weeks depending on whether the room is fully tiled. We give you a realistic timeline at the quote stage rather than an optimistic one, so you can plan around it.
Bathroom Refurbishment Across NW London
We refurbish bathrooms across Ruislip, Pinner, Northwood, Uxbridge, Harrow, Watford, Rickmansworth, Amersham, Ealing and Beaconsfield. Most of our bathroom work sits within this NW London arc.
Price depends on the size of the room, the scope of the rebuild (whether the layout changes), the finish you're after, and how much of the original fabric stays vs goes. A small bathroom kept on its existing layout sits at a very different price point to a large family bathroom with a new layout, walk-in shower and porcelain throughout. We don't put fixed prices on a website because no two bathrooms are the same.
What we do is give you a free site visit and an itemised written quote. You see exactly what's included for labour and materials. If after the quote you'd like changes to scope or finish, we'll re-cost the affected items. We do three quotes free for serious enquiries, and itemise revisions after that.
On bathroom jobs the customer chooses and supplies the tiles and sanitary equipment. This is the part you have to live with for years, and we're not going to make that decision for you. What we will do is talk you through what works for your ceiling height, your wall layout, and the finish you want. If your ceiling sits at 2.4 metres, for example, 600mm tiles give you a sensible repeating pattern rather than odd cut lines.
We have trade accounts with the main bathroom suppliers in the area and can pass our discount through to you on whatever you choose. We'll typically suggest you've got a rough idea of what you want before we visit, so the quote conversation focuses on the build rather than the showroom. We'll then refine the spec together before any orders are placed.
Tell us about your bathroom and what you're hoping to do. We'll arrange a free site visit, walk through what's involved, and follow up with an itemised written quote covering scope and materials.
This is what we do best.
